 Hello!

My name is Mindy and I am a Registered Nurse.

I live on a small farm in the woods of Upshur County.  Born and raised in Nebraska.

I graduated from Kilgore College School of Nursing in 1985. Those were the days of a white uniform, white pantyhose, white leather shoes, and a nursing cap.  Let's say old school.  I still hold these standards in my teaching.

I have worked in the hospital, operating room, with developmentally delayed children and adults, in a private General Practice physician's office, Hospice for 16 years, and Good Shepherd's Healthy Hotline. I continue to nurse on the side by conducting health assessments for insurance agencies. I  enjoy my nursing career and am pleased to share my knowledge with your children.  This will be my 14th year at Spring Hill.

I teach your children as I would teach any family or patient.  Healthcare providers encounter people from every walk of life, and that is how I teach my students.  I have been told I am very blunt.  I use medical language in my class, and I expect my students to pick up that vocabulary and use it as their years progress.

My goal is to enlighten your child who may already have an interest in healthcare and to provide interesting lessons to spark further interest in those students who have not yet chosen a pathway.

I will try to prepare the student for the healthcare market and adult life by developing a professional demeanor,  teamwork attitude, respect for others, and an increased ability to communicate effectively with all walks of life.  I have high expectations and require an advancing work ethic.

Makeup WORK
Any missed work can be made up during each 3-week grading period. If the assignment is turned in late, they will receive partial credit if not an excused absence.  The student will be responsible for asking for their work.  Work not turned in will result in a zero.  We do use the zero system as a missing grade to help both the student, parents, and teachers know that the assignment is missing.

I do use Google Classroom for some of our assignments, and I will have a Remind to notify students with occasional reminders.   Codes for each class will be on their parent signature form that they will bring home the first day of school.

GRADING

Testing 60 %  Daily grades 40%

*The daily Cursive journal will count as a Test Grade and be graded periodically.  This consists of 5 words written in cursive daily and their signature.  Cursive is still a form of communication, and many cannot read cursive writing.  I require my students to learn how to read and write in cursive during the year.  I will also help your child establish a unique signature for legal documents.  Please encourage your child to learn and use these skills.

* Medical Article of the Week with a cursive interpretation page: REQUIRED. This incorporates reading and writing cursive, and exposure to new ideas that are being presented to the medical professionals and the public. This is a daily grade and is due each week by Friday. The grade will be 100 if handed in on time.
