This will be my 18th year in education, and my eighth year teaching Spanish at Spring Hill ISD. I am delighted to be teaching Spanish I, Spanish II, and Language and Culture. Spanish is my first language, and I truly enjoy teaching it!
I am originally from Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Eighteen years ago, my family moved to Longview, Texas. We wanted our son Ethan to be fully bilingual. Ethan graduated from Spring Hill in May 2017.
Before becoming a teacher, I worked as a store manager for Xcaret and Xel-Ha Parks for 12 years. I was blessed to manage more than 160 employees.
I graduated from East Texas Baptist University in 1992 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. In 2007, I obtained a Master's in Business Administration from Universidad Interamericana del Desarrollo. In 2009, I completed an Alternative Teacher Certification with the Region 4 Education Service Center. At the moment, I am pursuing a doctoral degree to become a Christian counselor at Louisiana Baptist University.
I hold certifications for EC-8 in Bilingual Education and EC-12 in Languages Other Than English (Spanish).
From 2009-2019, I taught Kinder (3 years), 4th grade (5 years), 5th grade (1 year), and 6th grade (1 year) in One/Two Way Dual Language and Bilingual Programs.
I've been a Christian for 49 years and a member of New Beginnings Baptist Church for more than 11 years. I always ask my students for permission to share testimonies and personal stories.
So many people and organizations helped me to continue my education, so I love to volunteer in different community organizations in Longview. I am a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer, a weekly volunteer at the Treasures Store (Care Drops International), and a chaplain for the Gregg County Women's Jail. I love Mission Trips, so I traveled to Honduras, Mexico, or Guatemala to share Jesus during the year.
This will be my sixth year as an Adult Lead Advisor for the Sources of Strength Program at Spring Hill High School. This program harnesses the power of peer social networks to change unhealthy norms and culture, ultimately helping prevent suicide, bullying, and substance abuse. This year, we have 40 Peer Leaders-students enrolled in this program. Our Facebook page is Spring Hill ISD Sources of Strength, and our Instagram page is sosspringhillisd
This will be my first year as an NHS (National Honor Society) Lead Advisor; we have 62 students enrolled in this program. This is a total of 930 hours of community service from our students to our Longview Community. These students have excelled in their coursework and maintained a cumulative GPA of 95 in all academic, AP, and honors courses since entering High School. The purpose of the NHS is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service, promote leadership, and develop character in the students of Spring Hill High School.
In July 2022, I became a United States Citizen, so for many years, I used my maiden name, Claudia Ruiz. After becoming a U.S. citizen, I changed to my married last name, Pimentel. I've been married for 30 years to my husband, Roberto.
