WHY TAKE Digital Media?

Adobe Certified Associate Testing Center

In Digital Media we will explore various software programs included in Adobe's Creative Suite, such as Dreamweaver, Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Using Photoshop, we digitally enhance and manipulate photos, and we use Illustrator to create original vector art. We put together various print and digital layout designs in InDesign. Adobe Animate is used for creating simple animations, and Dreamweaver is what we use to create our online student portfolios. We will also prepare for and take various professional certification exams under the Adobe Certified Associate umbrella.

The use of graphics and multimedia in both print and online publications is the major emphasis in this course. One of our favorite projects for the last four years has been the prom design contest. The prom committee allows us to design the artwork for the prom posters, advertisements, tickets and t-shirts.

WHY TAKE ACCOUNTING?

In Accounting I we will explore accounting as a career and learn accounting principles used in sole proprietorships, partnerships, and corporations. We will utilize "pencil and paper" spreadsheets, from the workbooks that accompany the textbook, as a starting point for understanding the "in's" and "out's" of accounting. Accounting students actively participate in academic UIL competition.

In Accounting II we will review skills learned in Accounting I, and take accounting to a whole new level. We will work on UIL quite extensively with these second-year students. (Since this class meets with the Accounting I students, Accounting II is somewhat self-guided and self-paced, with goals set by the teacher.)

QuickBooks certificationMicrosoft Office Specialist

In both Accounting I and Accounting II, we have gotten certified in Quickbooks in the past. This year I believe we will try Microsoft Excel certification instead.

UIL Accounting

In Money Matters students will investigate money management from a personal financial perspective. Students will gain knowledge and skills necessary to establish financial goals through various methods such as investing, tax planning, asset allocating, risk management, retirement planning, and estate planning. Money Matters is a good foundational course for life and provides base knowledge for continued study in Finance or Accounting.
